PTI Press Release – Lawyers demand Elections in 90 Days

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf issues a press release on the matter of demand of lawyers to hold election in 90 days under the constitution.

• Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf fully supports the constitutional demand of the country's legal community to hold elections within the constitutional period of 90 days.
• In case of premature dissolution of assemblies, holding elections within 90 days is a mandatory requirement of the constitution.
• The Supreme Court has given an unambiguous interpretation of the said article of the Constitution regarding the period of elections.
• After the dissolution of the assemblies, there is a complete consensus in the nation on holding the elections within 90 days.
• With regard to the determination of the date of the elections, the consensus of the legal experts has also come out on the power of the President under the constitution.
• The efforts of the Election Commission to suspend the constitution and postpone the elections under the guise of constituencies have been rejected by the entire nation.
• The Caretaker Government and the Election Commission have no authority to violate the Constitution and deprive the people of their right to vote.
• Partial or total suspension of the Constitution falls under the category of high treason under Article 6, the punishment of which is determined by the Constitution itself.
• The solution to the political and economic problems facing Pakistan is hidden in the timely, free, fair and impartial conduct of elections.
• President of the country should determine the date of holding general elections in the country by exercising his authority under the constitution.
• The caretaker government and the Election Commission should ensure free, fair and impartial elections on the date fixed by the President instead of inciting internal chaos through serious deviation from the Constitution.
