PTI Press Release – Demand to President to Announce Date of Elections

An important meeting of the core committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf took place today in which following was discussed.

• Demanding the President to announce the date of general elections without delay.
• Resolution unanimously approved by the President for immediate determination of the date of elections.
• According to the Constitution of Pakistan, the supreme authority belongs to God Almighty.
• Powers and sovereignty under the Constitution are reserved for the people who exercise them through their elected public representatives.
• Pakistan is going through the most critical period of its history in which it is facing very complex problems and crises at the constitutional, political, democratic, administrative, economic, and social levels.
• The undemocratic and unconstitutional move of the regime change conspiracy in April 2022 has given rise to chaos and chaos in the state structure and governance.
• The Regime Change Conspiracy has created unimaginable excitement and anxiety in national security, national unity, national development and fundamental rights of the people and their lives.
• With each passing day, this frustration and anxiety is intensifying.
• Assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dissolved on 14 and 18 January 2023 respectively.
• The PDM government avoided holding elections in 90 days as per Article (2) 224 of the Constitution.
• The complete deviation from the decision of the Supreme Court on April 4, 2023 on this issue has opened the door to violation of the constitution on the one hand and on the other hand has caused deep concern in the nation.
• For an effective solution to the multifaceted crises facing Pakistan, the establishment of a democratic government is a constitutional requirement and the need of the hour.
• Article (5) 48 of the Constitution obliges the President to fix a date within 90 days for holding elections in case of premature dissolution of the National Assembly.
• Therefore, the President of the country should fulfill his constitutional duty and announce the date of general elections in the country without delay while ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution.
• Supremacy of the Constitution is the key requirement of the post of President.
• If the President of the country does not announce the date of the elections, he will be responsible for the desecration of the Constitution and violation of the basic constitutional and democratic rights of the people.
