PTI Press Release – The Issue Of Privatization Of National Institutions Including PIA By The Caretaker Government

  • The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf termed the privatization decision of the caretaker government as a deviation from the constitution.
  • Requesting the Caretaker Prime Minister to stop traveling around the world at government expense and focus on the constitutional responsibility of holding elections:
  • "Constitution and law do not give authority to the supervisory government to make long-term decisions, especially the privatization and sale of national institutions, etc. Any promise beyond the constitution and law of the two-month government cannot be trusted, nor will the next elected government accept the extra-legal decisions made by it.
  • Constitutionally, the sale of the institutions sold by the government, which dissolves into thin air in 53 days, will not be justified and legalized in any way.
  • Sovereign Guarantees used for sale by the caretaker government will also have no status.
  • The constitution reserves the authority to make such major decisions exclusively for the government elected for 5 years by popular vote.
  • The caretaker government must understand that the best interest of the state lies in full respect for the constitution.
  • Without full respect for the constitution and the law, no recipe for development and salvation can succeed.
  • Article 230 of the Election Act 2017 outlines the responsibilities of the caretaker government in detail.
  • Article 230 of the Election Act entrusts the caretaker government with the sole duty of assisting the Election Commission in conducting fair and transparent elections.
  • The Election Act obliges the caretaker government to remain neutral and confine itself to day-to-day affairs.
  • Article 230 of the Election Act strictly bars the caretaker government from making decisions on any major issue.
  • Only 53 days are left for the completion of the caretaker government's constitutional term. Instead of causing irreparable damage to the interests of the nation by jumping beyond the constitutional limits, the caretaker government should confine itself within the limits of the law.
  • The caretaker government should pay attention to conducting fair and transparent elections in the country in light of the spirit of Article 230 of the Constitution and the Election Act 2017.
  • The nation will never accept any attempt to loot the national institutions indiscriminately.
  • Any such step will be challenged at every level from the court to the people.
