PTI Press Release – Announcement of Election Date

• Reacting to the announcement by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that elections will be held in the last week of January, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has stated:
• The appointment of the month for elections by ECP, instead of announcing the date of elections, is surprising.
• The Constitution requires ECP to hold elections within a mandatory period of 90 days after the dissolution of the Assembly.
• Any date in January would be outside that constitutionally mandated period.
• The nation will not accept any date beyond the 90 day period until the final decision of the Supreme Court, where the matter is being heard.
• ECP has failed to create an environment for free, transparent, and impartial elections in the country, as they are required to do under the Constitution.
• PTI, a major stakeholder in the political process as the largest party of Pakistan, is being subjected to the worst state oppression, and every effort is being made for it to be excluded from the electoral race.
• According to the will of the Constitution, free, fair, and impartial elections are the ECP's responsibility and the only path to extract the country and our nation from crises.
