
PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhary termed Lahore High Court decision historic on his petition challenging non-party based election. He said in its historic verdict Lahore High Court has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold local government elections on party basis in Cantonment Boards across the Punjab.
He said Sharif Brothers the so-called democrats tried their best to avoid party based elections but all their attempts have gone foiled. He said PMLN is already very unpopular among the masses and after party based elections they may not be able to successfully materialize their parochial political goals.
He said PTI struggle for true democracy would continue.
Secretary General Yasmin Rashid said non-party based elections violate the spirit of the constitution and democratic principles. She said PMLN twice in a row after seven years of being in charge in Punjab was not ready to transfer power to local government and it was Supreme Court???s pressures that make them to hold local bodies elections she added. She said PMLN always find undemocratic ways to gain and hold the power.
She said in the local bodies elections people of Punjab will reject dynastic political families they know how to use their democratic right via votes.
Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said Sharif Brothers greed for ruling over Punjab and holding power in their own hand has made them civilian dictators. He said PTI believes on devolution of power to the village level. She said KP local bodies act is one of the best local bodies acts in the world that will revolutionize the local governance system.
She said it is high time and the right time that real democracy prevails in Pakistan, which only can if we empower local people. She said this sham democracy is not acceptable to people of Pakistan.
She said PTI would be always there to protect the democratic rights of the people of Pakistan and she thanked judiciary for safeguarding and honoring democratic rights of the public.
