PTI leader Ejaz Chaudhary said rain has exposed all the tall claims of Shabaz Sharif and Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) as majority of the city localities remained in ankle deep rainwater. This was the first monsoon rain and authorities were not able to drain rainwater. Every year rainwater chock the lives of people of Lahore and despite being in power for the last 30 years Sharif Brothers have not been able to develop proper sanitation system he added. He said the accumulated rainwater was causing serious inconvenience for residents of various localities in the city. The upcoming monsoon season would paralyze the lives of the citizens if urgent measures are not taken he added. He said people do not want to see Khadama A Alla wearing long boots and standing in rainwater for photo session instead they want immediate drainage of rainwater after rain.
PTI leader Yasmin Rashid said last year the so-called good governance of Shabaz Sharif was swept in monsoon rainwater when he and his administration badly failed to tackle rainwater in Lahore. Last year it was claimed by the city authorities that all drains of the city have been cleared of silt and solid waste and there was no danger of flood during monsoon season, but we have seen worst rainwater management she added. She said Shabaz Sharif keeps burning the resources on useless roads and flyovers but does not want to fix years old drainage system.
PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said every year all the arrangements of Shabaz Sharif get exposed when the rainwater chokes the entire drainage system mainly in low lying areas turning several roads, into ponds. The poor public face great difficulties because the rainwater inundated streets and water gushed into their houses due to poor cleanliness arrangements every year she added. She questioned what Lahore Waste Management Company is doing to ensure smooth flow of rainwater in the city during monsoon season? She said if Khadam A Alla had learnt any lesson from last year heavy rainfall the city streets would not have turned into rivers during monsoon's first rain. Clearly, no significant improvement has been brought about in the drainage system during the last 30 years rule of Sharif Brothers in the city she added.
