Public Hospitals in Punjab Stumbles: PTI | Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf

Dr. Yasmin Raashid, health advisor to PTI Chairman said self proclaimed Khadam I Allla should hang his head in shame after a woman was forced to give birth to a child in the courtyard of Lady Wellington Hospital, Lahore on Tuesday as she was denied admission in the hospital. The poor husband of the woman brought his wife to the hospital for delivery but callous hospital administration refused to entertain the woman she added. She said this is the same of Lady Wellington Hospital that Khadam I Allla was going to demolish for the construction of the flyover at Azadi Chowk but she filed a petition against the demolition of the hospital and the Lahore High Court then restrained the Punjab government from demolishing the hospital she added. She said Shabaz Sharif was neglecting public welfare and was bent upon demolishing the hospital instead of establishing more health facilities for the public. Services for normal deliveries are not available at 60 per cent of primary healthcare facilities, while services for caesarean section are not available at 26 per cent of secondary hospitals in Punjab and due to these missing facilities Pakistan has alarmingly high maternal mortality rate she added. Khadam I Allla is ready to burn 165 billion rupees on single Orange Line Metro Train but he is least bothered to improve health facilities in public hospitals she said. She said Khadam I Allla is diverting health and education funds towards showy projects for political gains and for furthering his own businesses.

PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said Sharif Brothers are ruling Punjab from the last 35 years but still women are giving birth to children on the stairs of the hospital. This is not the first incidence where a patient was denied treatment in a public hospital she added. She said as expected Khadam I Allla has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the Health Department. Khadam I Allla is running the largest province of the country without a health minister for the past seven years she added. She said the health advisor he has appointed is such an incompetent person that he cannot even resolve the single issue of Young Doctors and thus to expect from him that he would transform the public health is futile. Every minute a child dies in Pakistan, every hour three women die and the majority die from preventable diseases she added. She said this is unacceptable and criminal; the ruling elite enjoys the facility of expensive treatment from foreign countries on the expense of public money. But the poor public whom they claim to represent are left to die she added.
