Dr. Yasmin Raashid, advisor to PTI Chairman said that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) head of intelligence and investigation has spilled the beans against the ongoing corruption and tax evasion under the nose of PML-N government. FBR head of intelligence and investigation has admitted that due to these leakages FBR failed to meet the tax collection targets she added. She said PML-N government lacks the will to improve the tax collection. The FBR official said intelligence and investigation wing of FBR is facing shortage of resources to capture the tax evaders she added. She said FBR is responsible for collecting taxes but is plagued by inefficiency, incompetency and corruption within FBR ranks as admitted by the head of intelligence and investigation. FBR people are in search of revenue but they could not even handle the current taxpayers issues she added. She said seriousness of PML-N government to introduce tax reforms can be judged from the fact that it has been over two and half years of the PML-N being in power but so far no tax reforms have been introduced. The tax reforms bill tabled by PTI legislators in National Assembly has not be entertained by the government she added.
PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said corruption was the perennial problem of FBR but this confession of corruption straight from the horse's mouth has set a new trend. The admission by FBR head of intelligence and investigation that tax evasion cannot take place without the involvement of tax officers highlights the crooked deeds of tax machinery backed by the ruling elite she added. She said the usual inefficiency of the FBR, coupled with rampant corruption, has led to a situation where tax revenues are plunging. FBR corrupt officials do not collect taxes rather they help and show ways to those who try to evade taxes she added. She said where a third time Prime Minster of the country is a tax evader what else could be expected from the rest of the corrupt lot which is ruing the country from last three decades. Nawaz Sharif is among the richest person of the South Asia but hardly pays few thousands rupees of tax she added. She said PML-N instead of window dressing policy must wake up and remove all perks, privileges and subsidies to wealthy non-tax paying scoundrels including the rich parliamentarians. FBR needs a complete overhaul, those who are involved in the corruption should be taken to the task she added.
