Punjab PTI organiser Ch Sarwar has issued a factsheet about ???worst law and order??? in Punjab, stating over 5,820 people were murdered including 341 in Lahore during the last year.
Issuing the factsheet from his office on Monday, Sarwar said 14,437 kidnap cases, 95 kidnap for ransom cases, 2,867 rape and 235 gang rape cases had been reported, which was a slap in the face of government???s good governance.
He said over 40,000 proclaimed offenders were walking freely throughout Punjab and over 440 police encounters had been staged in province for which dozens of innocents were killed.
He said some 7,000 animal theft and 20,960 cases of vehicles and motorcycle theft sealed the incompetence of the rulers. He regretted that extortion cases had also become routine in Lahore besides fake police encounters.
He said the Punjab police were acting as a ???police wing??? of the PML-N instead of apprehending the culprits. Ch Sarwar said the Punjab rulers and police had completely failed to maintain law and order in the province. He said theft and dacoities have become fate of the people in Punjab.
He said police???s own record showed that the crime rate had dangerously increased during the last year in Punjab. During the last year, he said, 385,200 cases were registered about different crimes in police stations across Punjab.
Thousands of people just failed to get their cases registered.
He said the data available on Punjab police website showed that 102,073 cases were reported about dacoity, robbery, theft, vehicles, motorcycles and animal snatching and theft.
Ch Sarwar said 122,945 cases were registered under special and local laws while 102,559 cases were registered under miscellaneous laws. Giving data of other crimes, the factsheet said 6,412 attempted murder, 15,957 cases of causing injuries to others, 14,423 kidnap cases, 95 kidnap for ransom cases, 2,832 rape cases, 226 gang-rape cases, 15,445 dacoity cases, 16,706 robbery cases, 12,526 theft cases, 6,932 animal theft cases, 20,560 vehicles and motorcycle theft cases, 6,448 vehicles and motorcycle snatching cases were reported during the last year.
???These figures are only of those cases that were reported in police stations, while it is hard nut to crack to get a case registered in a police station,??? Sarwar commented.
He said police simply refuse registering cases of dacoity and according to reports only 15 to 20 per cent such cases were reported at all. In Lahore alone, the factsheet said that 341 murder cases were reported besides theft of 1,019 vehicles, 4,419 motorcycles, while millions of rupees were looted in other 426 robbery and dacoity incidents. Ch Sarwar said the Punjab police had completely failed in maintaining law and order in the province because the police was playing the role of PML-N???s police wing instead of apprehending the culprits. He said the police was busy targeting the PML-N???s political opponents and people of Punjab had become completely unsafe. ???Punjab has actually become a safe heaven for the criminals,??? he observed.
