PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhary has expressed his deep concern over
the criminal negligence of Punjab Institute of Cardiology management. The
ruling elite is enjoying free medical treatment in foreign countries while the
poor are left to die in PIC by administering unregistered life-saving
medicines.
He said he has no idea why the PIC management is playing with the lives of
the poor heart patients when they are already responsible for the deaths of
over 200patients in 2012. He said Punjab Healthcare Commission has
become a joke. No one knows what happened with the investigation into
the death of over 200 cardiac patients in 2012, what action was taken
against the culprits and what happened with the Karachi based medicine
company which was supplying medicines at that time to PIC he added.
Secretary General Yasmin Rashid said if this is the situation in the prime
heart care facility of the province we could imagine the condition of other
public hospitals in the province. She said World Health Organization report
had blamed contaminated medicine for the death of more than 200
patients in 2012. Again the PIC management is trying to play with the lives
of the cardiac patients by administering them unregistered medicines.
She said Shabaz Sharif needs to come out of his virtual world and see that
illegal practices are going on since a long in PIC. She said with 200,000
deaths per year in Pakistan related to heart diseases the situation calls for
urgent Government intervention for heart care facilities in the country. But
unfortunately the existing facilities instead of saving patients lives are
plying with their lives she added.
Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said PIC management has been
procuring unregistered medicines for the last many years under the nose of
self-proclaimed Khadam e Alla. She said this is totally irresponsible act of
Punjab Government and Shabaz Sharif and they are responsible for any
mishaps in PIC, she added. She said cardiac care is a sensitive issue and
those involved in the business of supply of unregistered drugs should be
taken to the task and immediate action should be taken.
She said Shabaz Sharif is ready to spend billions on metro buses and roads
but he cannot spare money for health sector. She said public health service
in Pakistan is the most neglected area. She said in a country where only
55% of the population had access to safe water sources the nation should
not expect any thing good form Sharif Brothers for health facilities. She said
procurement of unregistered drugs in PIC is the glaring example of human
greed encouraged by bad governance of the government.
