Dr. Yasmin Raashid, advisor to PTI Chairman said there is an old saying that one should not put a cat to protect milk and this is the most apt saying when we consider that we have National Accountability Bureau (NAB) which is supposed to go after the corrupt but it appears to be a party to them. Once again the original record in the assets reference against former president Asif Ali Zardari, which has been dragging on for last 15 years has gone missing she added. She said in September last year original record in the SGS-Cotecna reference also went missing which leads to acquittal of Asif Ali Zardari from SGS-Cotecna case. The accountability court goes by the law and dispenses justice as the original record was missing she added. She said one more time strangely the original record of Asif Ali Zardari???s assets reference has gone missing and again Asif Ali Zardari would be honorably absolved from all the corruption charges. Very smartly Asif Ali Zardari has got the record removed and NAB was fully cooperating with him at that time she added. She said the nation wants to know what NAB was doing once the full original record was present and why the case was dragged for more than 15 years. Accountability under this sham democracy is a joke she added.
PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said what a shame that powerful ruling elite cannot be punished for their wrongdoing in this country. This corrupt elite feels no shame as they destroy evidence to save their ill gotten wealth by hook or by crook she added. She said NAB has miserably failed to control the menace of corruption and instead it has become a facilitator for the corrupt lot. Acquittal of Asif Ali Zardari from SGS-Cotecna reference on the ground of absence of original record and record missing from assets reference case of Asif Ali Zardari are such examples of this coalition of corruption she added. She said this interconnected mafia has very deep roots in NAB, as the corruption watchdog was always hand in glove of the government of the day. What accountability do we expect from NAB when its own ex officials are facing NAB inquiries for misusing their authorities she added. She said Asif Ali Zardari is an expert who understood the system well and exploited it to the fullest. Live and let live was his underlying principle; Sharif Brothers are fully facilitating him to clear his name for corruption cases, as they want him to keep quiet on their corruption she added. She demanded that the people responsible for losing the record on such a big case should be punished and removed.
