Dr. Yasmin Raashid advisor to PTI Chairman said just to make big commission from Orange Line Metro Train Sharif Brothers are bent up destroying centuries old heritage monuments of Lahore. These heritage monuments of the city are more precious than the Orange LineMetro Train she added. Lahore is rich in heritage; old city is blessed with one heritage site after another, the integrity of which has been maintained so far she added. She said however, Khadam I Alla???s priority of mass transportation above all else seems to make little sense to people who love the old culture of this beautiful city. The so-called development projects of Sharif Brothers are being blatantly made to serve showmanship purpose and are just unnecessary and ridiculous. People do not have access to basic health facilities and more than 70 percent people of the city does not have safe drinking water she added. She said but still Khadam I Alla thinks people need world's most expensive Orange Line Metro Train after flashy Metro Bus. Does public transportation is the only issue Lahore is facing she questioned? She urged Shabaz Sharif to change the planned route of the Orange Line Metro Train because views of a number of historical monuments and buildings such as Chauburji, GPO and Shalimar Garden would be affected.
PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said the civil society has staged hundreds of protest demonstration against threats to heritage sites of Lahore due to the Orange Line Metro Train. Even United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has expressed serious concerns regarding possible danger to heritage sites of the city she added. She said around the world Metro Train tracks are build underground but just to use iron rods of Ittefaq foundry, Sharif Brothers have resorted to elevated track. When governments build public infrastructure, they need to be respectful to heritage buildings, this is the prime reason in foreign countries they build underground Metro Trains, not cutting down Shalamar garden and GPO in a historic city like Lahore she added. She said in Sharif Brothers rule everything is being done in a hurry to preempt next election. They do not bother about what civil society and UNESCO is saying, as their only purpose is to make money and win elections she added. She said Sharif Brothers have no sense of priorities. Public health and education is far more important for the country than building unnecessary showpiece projects. She demanded the government to immediately halt the project and review it to prevent damage and destruction to historical sites.
