PTI warns of looming Dengue epidemic in Punjab | Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf

Dr. Yasmin Raashid advisor to PTI Chairman said thousands of people in Multan and Rawalpindi have been struck by dengue fever while Khadam E Alla is totally missing from the scene. The situation is getting worse as the number of dengue patients has reached 2350 in Rawalpindi and most of the patients are children and women she added. She said due to the escalating number of patients, beds in hospital wards have fallen short but no one at the helm of affairs is ready to take responsibility. The weather these days enables the mosquitoes to breed but unfortunately Punjab government and Dengue Control Cell has badly failed when it comes to fogging as per the schedule she added. There is no treatment for dengue, which causes symptoms including fever, severe joint pain, headaches and bleeding and the only way to deal with the outbreak is to curb mosquito breeding she said. She urged Khadam E Alla to look into the affairs of public health and forget Orange Line Metro Train for few days.

PTI Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said there is an urgent need to control dengue spread otherwise chances are it could affect the entire province. Dengue in Rawalpindi and Multan has intensified as thousands of patients were admitted in various government hospitals among which hundreds have tested positive to the disease she added. She said Dengue Control Cell failed to carry out proper fogging in two cities after heavy monsoon rains. It shows criminal negligence by the provincial health department and Dengue Control Cell, as they did not take timely measures to control the disease she added. She said Punjab government???s preventive measures are limited to publications of ads in newspapers and electronic media with pictures of Sharif Brothers. She said in 2008 just to secure votes Shabaz Sharif ran aggressive anti dengue campaign and after that when he became Chief Minster he forget all his promises to uproot dengue from the province. A vigorous campaign, based on preventive measures against dengue, is the need of the hour and government machinery needed to further strengthen anti-dengue campaign to save lives she added.
