PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhary said skyrocketing prices of kitchen items ahead of Ramazan is alarming. It seems that PML-N Government has failed to curb artificial hoarding of daily use items and the price control committees are of no use he added. He said price of tomato a staple food and integral part of all cuisines across Pakistan went up during the week with per kg price of Rs68 to Rs75 in the retail market, against Rs48 per kg in last week. The hike in price of onions is also unprecedented, he added.
He said unfortunately due to apathy of PML-N Government and its minister???s people of Pakistan were not able to enjoy the benefits of low petroleum prices. The rising food inflation will hurt the poor masses and this is the prime example of inept PML-N Government he added.
Secretary General Yasmin Rashid said the start of Ramazan in Pakistan has always been accompanied with unexplained hyperinflation. Why the prices are soaring at this time as it means people would face huge increases in the price of food staples in the holy month of Ramazan she added.
She said the continuous increase in the prices of food items is a dangerous trend in a country where 60 percent people live below poverty line.
She said Sharif Brothers always put public money where their interests lie, while they have pledged only Rs 1.5 billion for Ramazan package, which is a joke with a nation of 188 million people.
Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said global food prices fell in April 2015 to their lowest since June 2010, on the other hand we Pakistanis are facing food inflation. She said the current price hike is because of artificial shortage created by the hoarders who were trying to amass profit during Ramazan. She said unfortunately it???s been 68 years but still governments were not able to develop effective price control mechanism in the country. Ishaq Dar is busy fooling the nation with cooked up figures while the poor masses experience a higher rate of inflation than the rate reported by Ishaq Dar she added. She said if government is serious to control food inflation then an effective price control strategy needs to be developed and role of middleman needs to be abolished.
